Algiers will host the AUB’s Centre of Content Exchange Network
The Minister of Communication of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, Mr Djamel Kaouane, laid the foundation stone of the building which will host the Centre of the African Union of Broadcasting (AUB) and the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU)’s Content Exchange Network, on Thursday, 20th February 2019.
This centre will improve the exchange of audiovisual content between Arab and African television channels and radio stations, as well as the European and Asian media, thanks to the diversity and richness of the programs thus shared by the Member States of these Unions.
The ceremony took place in the presence of the Directors General of the AUB and the ASBU, representatives of international professional organizations, such as the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and the Permanent Mediterranean Audiovisual Conference (COPEAM), as well as the Directors General of TDA, National Radio and Television.
The event came against the backdrop of a capacity-building seminar organized in Algiers for the benefit of AUB Member-countries’ Technical Staffs coming from Angola, Nigeria, Tanzania, Cameroon, Mozambique, Botswana, Eswatini (former Swaziland) and Zambia.
According to the Minister of Communication, this event marks "the determination of Algeria to honor its commitments vis-à-vis its Arab and African partners, following the instructions of the President of the Republic, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, to make the 'Algeria, through this centre, the pivot of pan-Arab and pan-African media cooperation of international scope'.
The future AUB-ASBU Centre will be built on a land of 2.860 m² with 500 m² four-floors. The construction Project will be managed the Télédiffusion d'Alger-TDA.
It has benefited funding from the Public Equipment Budget of the Ministry of Communication, of 552.000.000 DA, about 4.103.518 Euros.
